This past Wednesday - Friday, I was able to go to the Orange Conference in Atlanta,Georgia, with my friend Tanya Velardo. She is the Children's Minister at our church. I have gotten to know her through hometeam and working in our Splash (ages Kindergarten - 5th grade) over the past year. Tanya asked me a few months ago if I might be interested in attending the conference with her this year. I initially thought, wow that sounds great and was humbled she asked but then the logistics started to run through my head. I almost hesitated to even ask Josh knowing it was a Wed-Fri. When I mentioned it, he immediately said Yes I should go and he would make it work. I am very thankful for his willingness to take on the boys and take off of work a couple days. I think it was a great experience for all three of them and am thankful it all went so well while I was gone. I am thankful he was supportive and realized the benefit of me attending this conference.
Orange is the curriculum our church uses for our children's ministry. Orange is a blend of Red (the Family) and Yellow (the church). The idea behind Orange is that with the family and the church working together we can make more of an impact on children for the sake of Christ. I really like what Orange stands for and have loved what my boys are gaining from church each week as a part of this curriculum. As I have been working in the ministry the past year, I have grown to appreciate this curriculum even more and was thankful for the opportunity to go to the conference. Tanya wanted someone that could help with collecting and absorbing ideas and someone that had a mother's perspective. After the conference, I think even more highly of the curriculum and am extremely thankful our church uses it and that I get to be a part of implementing it with our children to watch children learn about and come to know about Jesus as their Lord and Savior!
